Jude Hungerford

I have a degree in graphic design from the UK and ran my own design business for a number of years. I was co-founder of a dedicated art publishing company based in Sydney, publishing monographs on Australian artists. Maybe it was the close connection during that time to so many interesting people in the art world that set in train my need to morph myself from design to pursuing a career in art. I have lived in London, Oxford, Bristol, Sydney and Melbourne.

I work in various media which includes digital as well as conventional materials and sometimes work onto found surfaces such as wood and metal. I have worked with encaustic wax and layered plastics and also make conceptual photography, often in combination with my painted work.

The environment is my main interest. I explore the textures, forms and colour of natural objects and always have a camera to record daily observations of the world around me, and the things that hide in seeming ordinariness. I love the marks on the landscape, both natural and man-made. They tell a fascinating story of movement and history.
